Psalm 86
Do we humans realize how guilty we are? Do we really understand how weak and how utterly helpless we are? Do we really understand the fact that God owes us nothing, that every day we wake up and are breathing is a gift that we have done nothing to deserve? I've been reading through Psalm 86 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id23&chapter=86) this week and every time I am struck by how humble and honest David is in those first 7 verses. He doesn't pretend to be anything other than a lowly, wicked sinner. All he can do is cast himself on God's mercy and wondrous willingness to show grace. No matter how mature we may get in our faith, may we never think that we have outgrown our need for the cross and for mercy.
